Stack the Cats by Susie Ghahremani

Are you ready? My debut picture book as author-illustrator – Stack the Cats – is now available for pre-order on Amazon from Abrams Books! I’ll have it available in my shop after its release date of May 2017, and there will be incentives to order directly from me (like autographed books with a one-of-a-kind cat drawing!) and a couple book launch events, so please stay tuned!

What Will Grow? — my next picture book with amazing nature writer Jennifer Ward — is a completely different kind of book, and also available for pre-order (and comes out a little sooner, February 2017.)

It’s been awhile since I updated the blog — I’m so sorry. I’ve just been SO busy! Speaking of picture books, I was honored and astounded to be selected as a winner of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Portfolio Mentorship Award for 2016! Working closely with the mentors at the SCBWI conference in Los Angeles was one of the highlights of my year and an amazing learning opportunity. For those looking to get into the world of children’s books, you must join SCBWI — it’s an incredible organization I’m so proud to be part of!

Those following me on social media know I’ve been standing up for my art while curating art shows while illustrating magazines while appearing on the news while designing new products and shipping orders while painting new paintings while traveling, doing craft shows, attending conferences, writing books,… if I haven’t updated here in awhile, it’s just because I’m only one person!

Snail Mail enamel pins (and other pins) are new in the shop!

Artwork from my art show Flora at Land is almost completely sold out (one small piece remaining).

    Upcoming events:
December 3rd: The annual POST IT SHOW curated by Mark Todd and Esther Watson at Giant Robot, Los Angeles! $25 per drawing, fun make & take art show!
December 10th: Makers Arcade at Broadway Pier, San Diego — Craft show featuring tons of local artists (including me!)
December 11th: Craft and Draft at the Blind Lady Ale House, San Diego — Craft show with craft beer in my neighborhood!
February 2017: What Will Grow? is released!
March 2017: Solo show coming to Giant Robot Los Angeles!
May 2017: Stack the Cats! is released!

    See? Busy!

I’ll have more holiday info to post soon, but thought I’d post that first preview of Stack the Cats — I’m SO excited about it and hope you are, too!

What Will Grow by Jennifer Ward, illustrated by Susie Ghahremani

This week has been absolutely bananas. I received proofs of both of my picture books, What Will Grow? (publishing Feb 2017) and Stack the Cats!, my first picture book as author AND illustrator (publishing May 2017). To see years of my work bound and in my hands has been a transcendent experience. It’s crazy how small steps every day can add up like this. Save the dates – these books are out next year, not this one!

My artwork from Leanna Lin’s Wonderland 6 year anniversary show is online or in person in Los Angeles (always the better way to see it, if you can) until August 28th:

And I’ll have paintings in FLORA at Land in Portland, OR next month, opening August 26th, at this show I’m proud to say I curated myself. (RSVP on Facebook here) — It features an all-female, all-analog lineup, something I’m not sure I’ve ever seen before in combination in an exhibition. And it’s at one of the best galleries ever!

I’ve already begun work on my next picture book, several exciting illustrations, other art shows (including two solo shows slated for 2017), and enjoying making and mailing this series of pins, so all in all, I’m happy, busy, and ready for more.

I have 38 paintings and new works in the show alongside six great artists. The curation of the show brought together work that is diverse but complementary. Thanks to Eric Nakamura for inviting me to be part of such a special group.
