musical chairs opens at gr-sf on november 10th

October 30th, 2007

i’ll be heading up to san francisco for the installation and reception of my san francisco solo show “musical chairs” at gr-sf. please join me for the reception: saturday, november 10th at 618 shrader st. from 6:30-10pm

information from GR-SF:

Giant Robot is proud to present Musical Chairs, an art show featuring the work of Susie Ghahremani.

Ghahremani is a RISD graduate who has contributed work to Nickelodeon, Chronicle Books, and The New York Times, and was featured in the 2006 American Illustration publication. Illustrations by the San Diego artist have a patchwork appearance that is simple in design, complex in execution, and all-around pleasing to the eye. In addition to making two-dimensional art, she crafts tote bags, buttons, wallets, stationery, and other goodies.

Subjects of Musical Chairs include animals in domestic settings with pianos, accordions, guitars, and other instruments. Some of the creatures are indeed seated but others are in boats, on picnics, or other settings in the modestly sized but highly detailed paintings. Ghahremani has created upwards of 200 pieces for previous shows at Giant Robot galleries, and Musical Chairs promises to be bountiful as well.

hope to see you there!

and even sooner, here in san diego this saturday, november 3rd is the opening of the kokeshi show at subtext: on beech one block west of india st. in little italy.

san diego wildfires

October 25th, 2007

i’ve gotten so many emails and messages from everybody, thank you so much for thinking of me out here in san diego — i am fine as are my friends and family right now in regards to the wildfires currently raging in our city. it’s scary and it’s smoky, but we’re safe and helping out our fellow san diegans as best we can.

a lot of domestic animals and wildlife have been displaced and injured during the fires, so if you’d like to help out, there are a few different places that could really use the funds:

please consider donating to the san diego humane society
or project wildlife
(both have buttons online to click to donate)

the red cross has been organizing a lot of excellent relief efforts in the area for families.

if you can’t make a monetary donation, consider using the search engine goodsearch to search the internet — a penny goes to the non-profit of your choice everytime you search (and there is no limit to how many searches you can do a day) and if we all do it, it can really add up. (don’t forget to select your default non-profit before searching — project wildlife is who i goodsearch for)

thanks everyone and be safe.
