Stack the Cats by Susie Ghahremani

Are you ready? My debut picture book as author-illustrator – Stack the Cats – is now available for pre-order on Amazon from Abrams Books! I’ll have it available in my shop after its release date of May 2017, and there will be incentives to order directly from me (like autographed books with a one-of-a-kind cat drawing!) and a couple book launch events, so please stay tuned!

What Will Grow? — my next picture book with amazing nature writer Jennifer Ward — is a completely different kind of book, and also available for pre-order (and comes out a little sooner, February 2017.)

It’s been awhile since I updated the blog — I’m so sorry. I’ve just been SO busy! Speaking of picture books, I was honored and astounded to be selected as a winner of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Portfolio Mentorship Award for 2016! Working closely with the mentors at the SCBWI conference in Los Angeles was one of the highlights of my year and an amazing learning opportunity. For those looking to get into the world of children’s books, you must join SCBWI — it’s an incredible organization I’m so proud to be part of!

Those following me on social media know I’ve been standing up for my art while curating art shows while illustrating magazines while appearing on the news while designing new products and shipping orders while painting new paintings while traveling, doing craft shows, attending conferences, writing books,… if I haven’t updated here in awhile, it’s just because I’m only one person!

Snail Mail enamel pins (and other pins) are new in the shop!

December 10th: Makers Arcade at Broadway Pier, San Diego — Craft show featuring tons of local artists (including me!)
December 11th: Craft and Draft at the Blind Lady Ale House, San Diego — Craft show with craft beer in my neighborhood!
February 2017: What Will Grow? is released!
March 2017: Solo show coming to Giant Robot Los Angeles!

See? Busy!

I’ll have more holiday info to post soon, but thought I’d post that first preview of Stack the Cats — I’m SO excited about it and hope you are, too!

So, onto some exciting news. First and foremost, BuzzFeed selected my Etsy shop as one of their “Places To Shop For Gifts Online That You’ll Wish You Knew About Sooner”!!
I couldn’t be more excited! It’s brought so many new visitors to my site, so if you’re one of those people, hello and welcome!

There has been lots of other wonderful Boygirlparty news this week, too! Yes, this has all been *in the past week!* See? Bananas.

Bookworm in Training Onesie by boygirlpartyMarceline at Super Cute Kawaii wrote this lovely feature about my artwork and shop! Because she’s basically the best. She’s an illustrator / small business, too, so check out her shop as well!

And, the amazing ladies at Cool Mom Picks selected my Land Air Water Journal Set as a Cool Gift for Kids in their always-amazing holiday gift guide! Did you see their generous feature about my baby clothing collection earlier this year? Because that was really exciting, too.

One of my favorite websites – BookRiot – chose my Bookworm in Training Organic Baby Clothing as a “Funny, Brilliant, Cute, & Awesome Bookish Baby Onesie”They also featured my Reading Octopus To-Do List Notepad in their round up of “Bookish Gifts for $20 or Less”

I can’t believe the incredible luck I’ve had this week receiving the support from so many amazing friends and websites! Thank you, thank you to everyone who placed an order or sent an encouraging message! You are making a huge difference in my life as an artist, it’s the best gift anyone can give me, and I am so moved by this unexpected praise and support.

I hope it’s ok that I’m sharing that stuff here. Being an artist is a pretty solitary pursuit, so discovering my artwork and gifts are on the radar of awesome people like Cool Mom Picks, BuzzFeed, Bookriot and others is pretty much mind-blowing.

xoxo susie

P.S. I know this was a long post, so don’t forget! Coupon code STAYINBED expires today, 11/30/15.
