new record: WINTER STOPS ALL SOUND
SNOOZER
a.k.a. Susie Ghahremani is a one-woman band from Providence, RI with
a penchant for sleeping things off and writing pop songs about them
later. She uses an assortment of instrumentations and harmonies to communicate
about seasons, changes, and the losses and gains we incur over time.
from philadelphia city paper, by M.J. Fine, 10/23/03:
Just this once, you can judge a book by its cover. The adorable art adorning Snoozer's "Winter Stops All Sound EP" (Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records) is the visual equivalent of the disc's kicky twee. Full credit is due to cartoonist/multi-instrumentalist Susie Ghahremani. In vibe and voice, the Providence R.I. home-recorder builds her nest between Mirah's wonderment and Juliana Hatfield's wistfulness. Her double-tracked vocals fall in and out of sync; claps lend a hand when they're warranted but don't overstay their welcome. "Labor Day," the organ-driven opener, sets hearts aflutter with its caffeine buzz; lead bass stirs the sugary "Write You." A ballad and three playful pop songs round out "Winter"s 13 winning minutes, which capture the season's cocoa coziness without succumbing to its Christmas schmaltz. Live, Ghahremani will get some help from V for Vendetta's Cara Hyde, who plays drums and cello on the EP.

[Snoozer] obviously digs sweet but challenging indie pop with a lo-fi edge. Songs like "Winterclothes and "Labor Day" are pretty and meaningful, with chewy centers and crispy surfaces.
